Using Community Guideline Reminders to Encourage My Facebook Group to Engage

For our assignment this week we were asked to create a social asset for our Facebook communities outlining our moderation process and key rules. I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to attempt to reach my members and encourage some engagement outside of comments on my weekly posts.

I created the asset below in Canva that mimics similar content I have already posted in the group. I wanted to remain consistent in formatting and style, but include dog-related aspects, like the bone and pawprints, to cater the post to our community.

Currently, my community members are wonderful participants. They have engaged with every single one of my posts and seem to look forward to what prompts I have come up with for our weekly posts.

However, I feel that engagement is falling short when it comes to members sharing their own content on our page. Each post seems to be from me, and when others share, it is usually quite rare and very short-lived when it comes to engagement.

To combat this issue, I am posting this asset with a caption that will be encouraging my community members to take control of their experience within our group by posting their own content. I am a very laidback admin and I completely trust my members to do this without much guidance from me, but I am sensing a lot of hesitation.

Here is the caption I have crafted:

“Hi all!

When I created this group, I did so with the intention that I wanted large dog owners in Florida to connect with one another over the fun and unique lives we live with our giant furbabies. I was unsure what our community would evolve into, but I wanted my members to get the most out of whatever it came to be. I have grown to love and care for our little group so much and I would love to hear from more of you!

I created this asset to outline some of our key rules for our Facebook community in hopes that it will encourage you all to create your own posts and share them within our group. If you don’t feel comfortable posting yourself, I am more than willing to share any content/ideas you may have for you. Not to mention, I always need new ideas for posts and prompts, so feel free to reach out with those as well.

I never want you all to feel as if I am dictating the discussion. Your words and stories are important and I want you to be able to share them with myself and the rest of the group. This will always be a safe space where your ideas are respected.

Again, thank you all so much for making this group feel like more than just a school project. I could never express how much I appreciate it.

P.S.- Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have!”

I hope by encouraging my members to take rein of the discussion and outlining the rules, they feel more comfortable communicating in our online space I have created. Now, all we have to do is wait and see.
